The role will primarily focus on the delivery phase of the project lifecycle: delivering complex activities on an operational nuclear licensed site. This will include management of civil engineering and earthworks contractors ensuring high quality work is delivered in line with NWS processes and procedures. The quality of the cap is of utmost importance with work being overseen by Independent Construction Quality Assurance engineers and inspectors. You will also be a member of the Repository Capping / Vaults Leadership Team; reporting to the Repository Capping / Vaults Programme Manager.
Typical annual spend will be around £20 million per year (including internal costs), however this will vary depending with the phasing of activities. Specific financial authorities are delegated to the Senior Project Manager, in line with the NWS scheme of financial delegation. This includes oversight of funds allocated to deliver contract work through the supply chain.
Essential:
- Experience (typically around 5+ years) of leading and delivering projects, in technical and regulated environments, and proven track record of managing and engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders in such environments.
- Experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams, including internal and external resources, to drive integration, teamwork and problem solving while holding people accountable for performance.
- Demonstrable experience of successful delivery of projects to quality, time and budget.
- Experience of managing positive relationships with the supply chain, including contract management.
- Collaboration – able to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, bringing people together to benefit the project.
- Working with ambiguity – able to set direction in uncertain situations and apply knowledge and techniques to reduce ambiguity.
- Conflict resolution – able to recognise, anticipate and effectively deal with existing or potential conflicts or disconnects at individual, team or strategic levels.
- Communication – good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, and at all levels of seniority.
Desirable:
- HND / Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification / suitable experience.
- Health and Safety Qualification with NEBOSH or SMSTS or IOSH.
- Relevant programme / project management qualifications (e.g. APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) / APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) / PRINCE 2 Practitioner / Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner).
- Working towards chartered status with a relevant professional body or having commensurate qualifications and experience.
- Relevant experience of working with stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
- Construction, Nuclear or Infrastructure Sector experience.
