Roles and Responsibilities
- Support and lead on initiatives to develop the Finance Control function by automating and improving current controls, processes, systems and embedding a continuous improvement mindset in the team. Continually reduce reporting cycles and improve control while improving efficiency
- To support the FC on implementation of a single ERP system and associated processes for NWS to support the move to a single entity in the next 12 months.
- Lead on the continuous improvements to the single ERP system, embedding improved process procedures into the finance function and build a platform for future growth
- Lead on the monthly management accounts and year-end statutory accounts and balance sheet reconciliations / financial controls for NWS
- Cashflow forecasting, managing cash, costings and creating new cashflow models for funding from the NDA
- Lead on the external audit relationship and build relationship with other external stakeholders as required
- Lead a team that includes qualified, and part qualified supporting their professional and career development
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, statutory and tax requirements
- Keeping up to date with changes in regulations/accounting practices and successfully implement appropriate new initiatives and train the wider finance team
- Work with colleagues across the NDA to share best practice and represent NWS
- Deputise for the Finance Controller as required
- Leading a team of 7-8 plus apprentices and graduates (2-4 per annum)
- Location is flexible, but some travel required to other NDA sites required
- Working flexibly with other senior Finance colleagues across both NWS and the wider NDA Group
- Nuclear Waste Services is a c£250m / 1000 FTE organisation but is expected to grow substantially in the Medium / Long term as the mission progresses. Within Major Capital Projects, the Geological Disposal Facility alone is a £20-£53 billion 100-plus year project which will be one of the biggest infrastructure and environmental protection programmes in the UK.
Experience Required
- Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA / CIPFA or equivalent) with substantial post qualification experience
- Experience in a similar accounting role leading a team responsible for all aspects of Financial Control and accounting
- Public Sector and/or Nuclear / Infrastructure experience would be advantageous
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures (UK GAAP)
- Experience with consolidation of group financial statements
- Experience with reporting of financial performance to parent group
- Experience implementing and optimising ERP systems and delivering on a transformation agenda would be advantageous
Essential
- ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification
Desirable
- Experience of leading a team through change
