Roles and Responsibilities
- Producing and checking Specialist Safety Assessments
- Producing and checking Strategy papers and Safety Reports
- Identifying required deliverables across Operations, Projects and Programmes
- Acting as a Subject Matter Expert, delivering training and evaluating the competence of individuals in nuclear safety roles
- Working with Project Managers to understand the scope of all work and manage resources to deliver requirements to time, cost and quality
- Acting as an LLWR Safety Case Manager. Advising Safety Case Owners and program managers, and determining safety case strategy
- Working with supply chain partners to provide quality work packages to time and cost.
- Participation in Best Available Technique (BAT) and design optimisation studies
- Inputting to and reviewing work packaging, tender selection, and tender submissions for procurement of nuclear safety case services.
- Leading and/or supporting regulator and stakeholder group interactions in connection with the role, including preparing and delivering technical presentations to stakeholder groups.
- Ensuring that specialist team members are aware of, and understand relevant legislation, ONR and LLWR guidance, policies and procedures
- Providing definitive and reliable nuclear safety case advice to colleagues such as Operational Staff, Engineering, Program Managers, ESC staff, Project Staff and Safety Case Owners
- Support the development and delivery of training and mentoring for trainee Safety Assessors
- Support the presentation of safety case documents to MEHSC NSEC and NSC committees and ensure alignment implementation arrangements
- Provide effective, proactive and action orientated safety case support to the defined specialist area of NWS
- Carry out audit, review and improvement / modernisation tasks
- Chair hazard and operability study (HAZOP) meetings.
- Write safety assessments or other Nuclear Safety Case documentation such as Clearance Certificates, Engineering Schedules, Summary Reports.
- QA check safety case documentation for logic and methodology or data and transcription errors
- Line Management for up to 6 team members
- Identify Nuclear Safety Case LFE and implement Improvements
- Provide Sharepoint and data coordination
- Attendance and contribution to industry forums
Experience Required
Essential
- Science, Mathematics or Engineering degree
- Significant experience of safety assessment in the specialist area, including application of safety case techniques and derivation of safety measures
- Experience of leading HAZOPs and/or HAZCON studies
- Experience of delivering safety case training
- Experience of safety case collaboration with engineering and operations
- Broad understanding of Nuclear Industry
Desirable
- Presenting safety case documents to a safety committee
- Engaging with, and working with supply chain
- Change management process experience.
- Understanding of waste management and consignment processes
- Experience of NWS safety case process and methodology
- Experience of working within a Nuclear Licenced and Environmental Permitted Site Licensee
- Wider experience of safety cases within the nuclear industry
- Experience of Requirements Management and System Engineering
