Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide timely and expert advice on radiological protection and compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 as an appointed RPA to Nuclear Waste Services, to support safe operations on the LLWR site and the wider business.
- Provide radiological protection advice to emerging programmes and projects associated with the Integrated Waste Management Programme.
- Develop and maintain the Radiological Protection Programme for Nuclear Waste Services, reflecting the changing risks of the business.
- Provide radiological protection advice on contingency plans, emergency procedures and remedial actions under the Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2019.
- Provide radiological protection advice on contingency plans, emergency procedures and remedial actions under the Carriage of Dangerous Goods (Amendment) Regulations 2019.
- As a member of the Nuclear Waste Services Corporate RWA Body, provide radiological protection advice covered by the RPA Certificate of Core Competence to enable Nuclear Waste Services to comply with the requirements of its’ Environmental Permit.
- Undertake a key role within the company’s emergency response arrangements.
- Undertake assigned activities as Intelligent Customer for radiological protection services required by Nuclear Waste Services (including Health Physics Monitoring services, radiological protection instrument provision, and IRR17 Approved Dosimetry Services).
- Monitor radiological safety performance, identify shortcomings and take an active role in driving improvement activities (including participation in formal audit and assurance activities).
- Assist in the development and delivery of specialist radiological protection training.
- Represent Nuclear Waste Services at external forums.
Experience Required
Essential
- Qualified to degree level in a technical or scientific subject, or significant experience in radiological protection.
- Holder of an RPA Certificate of Core Competence (applications from individuals who can demonstrate they are close to applying for a Certificate of Core Competence would also be welcomed).
- Experience of providing radiological protection advice in the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge of the principal legislation associated with operation of nuclear sites.
- Drive, energy, impact and influencing qualities to promote safety initiatives and enthuse others to work with the highest safety standards.
- High standard of written communication.
- Good interpersonal skills for dealing with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to coach and train others.
Desirable
- Experience of related Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
