Roles and Responsibilities

In this varied role, and you will provide support to the management and delivery of NWS’s community investment funding activities in a Community Partnership Search Area. The Community Partnership can award grants up to a total value of £1million over 12 months. Activities will include:

  • Support the Head of Social Impact to ensure NWS meets the obligations of the relevant Working with Communities policy, RWM’s community investment governance requirements and the Government Functional Standards for General Grants;
  • Process grant applications from a Community Partnership Search Area including advising applicants, scrutinising financial accounts and governance documents, assessing applications, preparing paperwork and attending award panels;
  • Assess applications applying proportionate due diligence and make recommendations on which applications should be considered for funding;
  • To take responsibility for end-to-end delivery of certain grants;
  • Ensure sufficient and appropriate information is available for each full application to enable informed decision making;
  • Implement funding decisions, including communicating with partners, initiating grant payments, visiting projects, building strong partnerships and ensuring appropriate and proportional monitoring reporting and evaluation is in place;
  • Promote and communicate funding opportunities to potential stakeholders, internally and externally, in order to ensure sufficient relevant, high-quality applications;
    Develop and maintain constructive relationships with applicants, supporting them to develop their funding requests;
  • Contribute to the development of NWS grant making strategy;
  • Provide effective line management for the Grants Officer;
  • Play a supporting role in ensuring that NWS becomes a partner trusted by communities
  • Support the regular activities of the Community Engagement team, including activity and budgetary reporting, team meetings etc.
  • Liaison with other NWS teams operating in the area, as appropriate
Experience Required

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of grant making processes
  • Experience and knowledge of partnership working, especially in a community setting
  • Financially literate
  • Good administrative skills, including meeting deadlines and prioritising workload
  • Self-motivated and with high personal resilience
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Desirable

  • Experience of grants-making software (NWS uses grantFlex)
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Experience of using a variety of communication channels, including social media
  • Able to analyse, use and effectively present relevant data and insights
  • Knowledge of government programmes/ projects that impact communities
  • Experience of managing public meetings/ events
  • Awareness of local area issues/ politics
  • Track record of delivering and reporting against targets
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload effectively
