Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensuring Design Authority is discharged as per INSAG-19 and associated ONR requirements for the relevant areas of responsibility, following NWS arrangements
- Co-ordinating technical oversight and governance on behalf of the Head of Design Authority & Technical Control
- Oversight of requirements generation, management and approval in relevant areas
- Review and acceptance of in-house and externally-produced designs, ensuring all aspects of safety, cost, etc have been considered
- Ensure changes to design intent and associated technical baselines are appropriately controlled, reviewed and sentenced
- Advise operations and programme stakeholders on essential or beneficial design interventions, and other technical strategy issues as required
- Maintaining an overview of the material state of relevant plant, and advising the Duty Holder as necessary of any issues
- Providing authoritative technical advice, using in-house subject matter experts as appropriate
- Ability to pass RR0016 SQEP assessment (LLWR Design Authority)
- LLWR Radioactive Waste Advisor
- Deputising for the Delegated Design Authority – LLWR, where required
Experience Required
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or scientific subject with 10+ years of professional practice
- Chartered membership of a relevant engineering or scientific body (e.g. Ceng MICE, Csci MIOP)
- Significant experience operating in and controlling complex design programmes
- Knowledge of industry standards, processes, procedures, methods and principles to high-hazard design management in an operational site context
- Leadership, influence, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the proven capability to work with and communicate to a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
