Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Delegated Design Authority – LLWR Future Vaults to join its busy team, flexible working with regular travel to its offices in Cumbria. 

As part of this role, you will be responsible for providing oversight, governance and approval of work relating to future vaults capability (and other elements of near-surface disposal) and capping operations at the LLW Repository site.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Ensuring Design Authority is discharged as per INSAG-19 and associated ONR requirements for the relevant areas of responsibility, following NWS arrangements
  • Co-ordinating technical oversight and governance on behalf of the Head of Design Authority & Technical Control
  • Oversight of requirements generation, management and approval in relevant areas
  • Review and acceptance of in-house and externally-produced designs, ensuring all aspects of safety, cost, etc have been considered
  • Ensure changes to design intent and associated technical baselines are appropriately controlled, reviewed and sentenced
  • Advise operations and programme stakeholders on essential or beneficial design interventions, and other technical strategy issues as required
  • Maintaining an overview of the material state of relevant plant, and advising the Duty Holder as necessary of any issues
  • Providing authoritative technical advice, using in-house subject matter experts as appropriate
  • Ability to pass RR0016 SQEP assessment (LLWR Design Authority)
  • LLWR Radioactive Waste Advisor
  • Deputising for the Delegated Design Authority – LLWR, where required
Experience Required
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or scientific subject with 10+ years of professional practice
  • Chartered membership of a relevant engineering or scientific body (e.g. Ceng MICE, Csci MIOP)
  • Significant experience operating in and controlling complex design programmes
  • Knowledge of industry standards, processes, procedures, methods and principles to high-hazard design management in an operational site context
  • Leadership, influence, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the proven capability to work with and communicate to a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
